The Swedish Coast Guard has participated in FRONTEX operations since 2009, with both aircraft and vessels. The participation in operations has now been formalized by the EU regulation 2019/1896 concerning the further development of the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG). As the participation in operations will be with new conditions in the future, the Coast Guard has a project with three distinctive parts that will facilitate the participation in the EBCG. The parts are;
The up-grading of the vessel KBV 202 to the minimum standards set by FRONTEX.
A logistics plan prior, during and after participation in a FRONTEX operation.
A long term strategy for participation in operations with staff and technical platforms.
