The Director General is accountable to the government for the activities of the Swedish Coast Guard, and the role is to ensure:
- that operations are conducted efficiently and in accordance with applicable law and obligations resulting from Sweden's membership in the European Union
- that operations are reported in a reliable and fair manner
- that the agency economises well with government funds.
The Director General is also ultimately accountable for the Swedish Coast Guard's operations and therefore also the agency's vessel operations and aviation activities.
