The Coast Guard has three advanced aircraft (Dash 8 Q-300) for maritime surveillance. They are named KBV 501, 502 and 503. The home base for the aircraft is Stockholm Skavsta Airport in Nyköping. The Coast Guard Air Patrol enables a high level of preparedness for environmental and search and rescue operations at sea.

Surveillance is conducted along the Swedish coast and over Vänern and Mälaren, around the clock, every day of the year. In addition to this surveillance, there are regular international assignments.

Each flight crew consists of two pilots and two system operators. During the flight, the operators are responsible for the surveillance equipment on board.
