Our mission

The activities of the Swedish Coast Guard are governed by the Ordinance containing instructions for the Swedish Coast Guard, the annual appropriation directions from the Government, other Government assignments outside the appropriation directions, and internal governing documents. Together, these form the basis for the agency’s operational planning.

In the Ordinance (2019:84) containing instructions for the Swedish Coast Guard, the Government regulates the agency’s responsibilities, powers and management.

Each year, the Government also decides what activities the Swedish Coast Guard is to carry out during the coming year. This decision is set out in the so-called appropriation directions. In these, the Government specifies the Swedish Coast Guard’s objectives, funding and reporting requirements. Based on the appropriation directions, the agency plans its activities.
