Since 1998, the heads of the Nordic coast guard organisations have met every year. This year, the Swedish Coast Guard hosted the programme and invited our Nordic colleagues to exchange experiences on challenges linked to the so-called shadow fleet and hybrid threats in the maritime environment.

Parts of the meeting were held on board KBV 003, which has taken part in several of this spring's boardings of unseaworthy vessels in Swedish waters. The Coast Guard presented several perspectives on the boardings: close cooperation between Swedish authorities, the legal framework, and the planning, execution and follow-up of the boardings themselves. Technology development, protection of underwater infrastructure and other hybrid threats were also discussed at the high-level conference.

All Nordic coast guard organisations face similar challenges. Close cooperation prepares us even better for the future.
