The Swedish Coast Guard's tasks and powers are set out in laws and ordinances. They state what responsibilities we have and how we may act when we carry out our duties. Our work is also governed by EU rules and international agreements.

In some areas, the Coast Guard issues its own regulations and general guidelines. Regulations are binding rules. General guidelines give advice on how rules can be applied. Both are published in the The Swedish Coast Guard Code of Statutes.
