Law enforcement and maintaining public order
The Swedish Coast Guard is responsible for maritime law enforcement and maintaining public order at sea. It either does this work independently or assists another authorities, in accordance with the Swedish Coast Guard Act (kustbevakningslagen, 2019:32) and other legislation. The Coast Guard also take part in joint cooperation between authorities against organised crime.

Every year we handle between 800-900 crime reports and between 80-90 requests for assistance from the Swedish Police and Swedish Customs. Most of the assistance concerns maintaining public order work in the maritime area and customs checks.
