The Maritime Surveillance Council
To assist the Swedish Coast Guard in coordinating civil maritime surveillance and sharing maritime information, the agency's instruction states that the agency must have a consultative body for civil maritime surveillance and maritime information.

The consultative body, the Maritime Surveillance Council, is organised at a strategic, an operational and a tactical level. Among other things, the Council has produced a maritime surveillance strategy for civil needs. The strategy must guide cooperation between agencies within the Maritime Surveillance Council.
In addition to the Coast Guard, the Maritime Surveillance Council consists of the following agencies:
- the Swedish Armed Forces
- the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency
- the Swedish Police Authority
- the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority
- the Swedish Maritime Administration
- Svenska kraftnät (the Swedish national grid)
- the Geological Survey of Sweden
- the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute
- the Swedish Security Service
- the Swedish Transport Agency
- Swedish Customs
