The exercise Aurora 26 is the largest exercise of the year for the Swedish Armed Forces. It is carried out together with military units from twelve other nations. The aim is to increase Sweden's defence capability together with our allies.

One of the scenarios practised was our divers finding an explosive object in connection with a cable break. The Swedish Armed Forces' explosive ordnance disposal divers were contacted and they defused the object. The exercise included lifting the divers' dive container with its pressure chamber on board KBV 002 Triton. The Swedish Maritime Administration also took part with personnel, based on its hydrographic survey assignment.

– We complement each other well. We have vessels with good endurance and technical expertise. The Coast Guard has good vessel coverage along the coast, and the navy has the specialist expertise to examine and handle dangerous objects under water. I am not surprised, but it is encouraging to see how easy it is to work together and how well we complement each other, says Jonas Grevstad of the Coast Guard.

In a state of heightened alert, the Coast Guard's areas of responsibility change. It must have the capability and a plan for its own tasks and for supporting the military defence. This is regulated in the ordinance on the use of the Coast Guard within the Swedish Armed Forces (förordningen (1982:314) om utnyttjande av Kustbevakningen inom Försvarsmakten, utnyttjandeförordningen). In a state of heightened alert and in war, Coast Guard personnel and equipment may be used within the Swedish Armed Forces for surveillance, transport and other tasks, according to an agreement between the authorities.

The Coast Guard and the Swedish Armed Forces are working to develop the Coast Guard's support to the Swedish Armed Forces. The authorities are jointly working to clarify the Coast Guard's support to the Swedish Armed Forces in a state of heightened alert and in war. They are also working to clarify cooperation during an actor-driven crisis below the threshold of armed attack.
