Customs inspections
The Swedish Coast Guard carries out customs inspections on maritime traffic, both independently and in cooperation with Swedish Customs. The cooperation between Swedish Customs and the Coast Guard is governed by a joint agreement on cooperation for customs inspections.

The Swedish Coast Guard contributes to Sweden's commitments in EMPACT relating to customs crime. EMPACT is a form of cooperation that the European Union adopted in 2010. Its aim is to work together against the most prominent types of crime and threats to the EU.
Swedish Customs has the main and overall responsibility for the control of goods entering and leaving Sweden. Under the Swedish Penal Act on Smuggling, Swedish Customs also has the main responsibility for the related law enforcement. The government and the parliament give priority to action against drug smuggling and large-scale smuggling of alcohol and tobacco. Swedish Customs has no vessels, aircraft or diving resources of its own. It therefore uses the Coast Guard as its maritime platform.
