As the name suggests, these crafts hover on a cushion of air. They can move freely over open water, pack ice, thin ice and land. The hovercraft are used for maritime search and rescue, pollution response and regular maritime surveillance.
Hovercraft
The Swedish Coast Guard has hovercrafts. We use them mainly in northern Sweden during the winter months for transport when ordinary boats cannot get through.
